Thyroid SPOREs
Thyroid cancer includes four main types: papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic. In 2016, there were an estimated 822,242 people in the United States living with thyroid cancer. By 2020, it is estimated that there will be 52,890 new cases of thyroid cancer and 2,180 deaths. Thyroid cancer is more common in women than in men and includes risk factors such as a family history of thyroid disease/cancer, childhood exposure to radiation to the head and neck, exposure to radioactive fallout, a personal history of goiter, and certain genetic conditions. The first Thyroid SPORE was funded in 2013.
