Kim J. Witherspoon, MS, MBA joined the Translational Research Program (TRP) in September 2024 as a Grant Specialist Contractor. Mrs. Witherspoon assists the TRP with coordination and management of administrative activities for the Specialized Programs Of Research Excellence (SPORE) Program. Her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with activities related to development and analysis of the SPORE program; review of grant applications; preparation and analysis of reports; identification of SPORE related issues; administrative support for SPORE program staff from pre-application to post award.
Ms. Witherspoon has 40 years of experience in the scientific field. She was a Biologist in an immunology/rheumatology research laboratory for 18 years at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. She took a position as a Biologist in the Clinical Grants and Contracts Branch in the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Rockville, Maryland. In 2018, she became Grant Manager for the Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) in the Investigational Drug Branch in the CTEP, DCTD. In 2022, she retired after 22 years of service at NCI and 40 years of federal government service. In 2024, she became an employee of Kelly Services. Mrs. Witherspoon received both Master’s degrees from the University of Maryland University College (now University of Maryland Global Campus). She has been the recipient of the NIH Office of the Director Honor Award, and NCI and NIH Merit Awards.
